Alan Ritchson's next action movie has found its cast. Starring alongside the Reacher star in War Machine are a handful of familiar faces from some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennis Quaid (Reagan), Stephan James (The Piano Lesson), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad), and Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) have joined the cast of the sci-fi action movie, War Machine, which begins shooting this week in Australia. Blake Richardson (Mystery Road), Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash), and Daniel Webber (The Dirt) round out the ensemble. Patrick Hughes (The Man from Toronto) is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with James Beaufort.

Reacher star Alan Ritchson will star in an upcoming gangster revenge movie described as "virtually a silent film."

War Machine is, per the logline, "set during the final 24 hours of the world’s toughest selection process and sees a team of Army Rangers encountering a threat beyond their imagination." Ritchson will play the lead Ranger candidate, with James, Courtney, Richardson, Lonsdale, and Webber playing other aspirants who find themselves in way over their heads. Quaid and Morales will play commanding officers. The movie is in development at Netflix, which acquired the project from Lionsgate.

Although Ritchson has been working in Hollywood since the early 2000s, he is arguably more famous than he has ever been thanks to Prime Video's Reacher, which recently wrapped up its second season earlier this year. The success of Reacher has led to Ritchson being sought out for roles in films like Fast X (2023), Ordinary Angels, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (both 2024).

He also has a multiyear first-look movie deal with Amazon MGM Studios, the studio behind his upcoming holiday family comedy The Man With the Bag with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The actor also wrapped production earlier this year on the action comedy Playdate, which he stars in with The King of Queens alum Kevin James, and is in development on a sequel series to his popular comedy series, Blue Mountain State (2010–11).

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, starring Tom Cruise as the titular drifter/former U.S. Army Military Police Major, is a massive hit on streaming.

Prime Video has so far released two seasons of Reacher, with a third in post-production and set to premiere in 2025. Based on the Lee Child novel Persuader, Season 3 of Reacher takes place in Maine, following Ritchson's title character as he goes undercover to rescue an informant being held by a haunting foe from his past. Joining Ritchson as part of the Season 3 cast are Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club), Sonya Cassidy (The Man Who Fell to Earth), Brian Tee (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), Johnny Berchtold (The Passenger), Roberto Montesinos (Father Stu), Daniel David Stewart (For All Mankind), and Olivier Richters (Black Widow).

Maria Sten, who appeared in the first two seasons, is also set to return as Frances Neagley, who was absent in the novel. However, it could be her last season as a series regular, as Prime Video is reportedly toying with giving Neagley her own spinoff series.

No release date for War Machine has been set at this time.
